The School of Arts & Media, Hampshire College

As dean, I spearheaded an effort to coordinate, aggregate, and promote h collective interdisciplinary curriculum and resources of the School of Arts & Media at Hampshire College. This effort involved a collaborative naming effort and the creation of a brand and mission for promotion and awareness.

The School Arts & Media takes an integrated, multidimensional approach to the arts, art theory, and art-making. Students and professors work across boundaries of art forms including: Studio/Visual Art, Film & Photography, Animation, Game Design & Development, Architecture & Environmental Design, Applied Design, Digital Art & Media, Creative Writing, Media Studies, Literature, Music, Theatre, and Dance.

The School Arts & Media has organized its curricular offerings around three core principles that form the pedagogical foundation for the school. These are: interdisciplinarity between and among the fine and liberal arts; arts and technology; and arts and social action. The school encourages students to break down boundaries, incorporate technology, create new forms, and, in the process, transform the world.
